Dear Mr. and Mrs. Hughes:
Thank you for contacting me about immigration reform. As your voice in Washington , I appreciate being made aware of your views.
On January 7, 2004, I announced my position on immigration reform. I continue to stand by the three points I made at that time:
1. I would oppose any program that would shortcut the current naturalization process.
2. I would oppose any program that rewards illegal aliens for their illegal acts.
3. I would oppose any program that does not further address the porous nature of our borders.
I am currently working with my colleagues in the Senate to determine the best way to handle immigration in our country. As this debate unfolds, I will stand by the principles I stated two years ago and will keep your thoughts in mind. Serving the people of Oklahoma is a responsibility that I take seriously and I appreciate knowing how you feel about this important.
Thank you again for sharing your views with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me again.
