Evening Shade

I have been attempting for several evenings to capture these very large moths with my diggie camera. I finally caught a couple of them, this evening. So to celebrate I am posting the capture. They are totally facinating creatures with the long things that appear to be tongues that flick at the nector of the moonflowers.

Okay my green side is coming out.

Wow, that moth looks like one my dh found half alive at work. It was huge and so beautiful. We looked it up online and think it was a Cecropia Silkmoth...

They are hard to catch with a camera. Snapping pictures is my hobby. My son is 9 and he is amazed at these little critters. We have probably 20 or 30 of them in the eveings flutting abourt the flowers.

Good job, Patty! Those type of pictures are never easy to take.

I found a huge moth beating itself against the window in my bathroom yesterday. I managed to catch it without crushing it and put it out the door. It flew away on the wind. Watching these creatures sure makes me wish I could fly!

They are a bit harder than you would think to capture them with a camera.
My son and I stalk them in the evenings. They are only out about an hour then just disappear.
The moonflowers are awesome flowers to me no maintence and easy to grow. Bloom in the evenings and nights.
I have hummingbirds in my sites now.
